Defuzzer for felts
Some of you may already know this but for those who dont: For years I've been searching for a better method of restoring aged hammers, hammer rail and damper felts. Filing is messy and you have to be extremely careful to get optimum results. I bought a battery powered clothing defuzzer from the supermarket (you know the one with the screened rotating blades). Cost about AU $12.00. The results on both dampers, rail felts and hammers is extraordinary! Absolute minimum material removal and very acceptable ground in dust removal and resulting colour restoration, shaping is safe and totally controllable. Overly fuzzy dampers end up looking like brand new and the hammers look very close to new. A novice could use this tool with confidence and ease. Ofcourse, I'm not suggesting this for felts that are too far gone, but to enhance reasonable felts, this is unbeatable. I have no affiliation with the makers of these things....lol Hope my suggestion helps :) Paul

Wow Paul good stuff! , sometimes something so simple can be the best with great results.I thought i may take this chance to throw in an idea ive been using and it has been great for me. Ive attached a picture showing an oiler i brought from a dept store. Its actually used for fishing reels and it has a needle like tip on the end for precise accuracy.I have found it to be perfect for player transmissions , as all seem to have that pin hole access points on where metal to metal moving parts are .Its quick clean , easy and there is no wastage. Ok i propose the next poster on this forum to bring forth a idea and lets keep adding them :D

Hi All, Here are a couple of pics of the hammer set in my Thurmer. I have used the defuzzer to both re-shape and remove dust migrated into the felt surface. These were reasonable condition to begin with, very dirty tho. I'm sorry I forgot to take pics before starting :) Paul

De fuzzing
Hi Paul, I like your hammers! Would you post a pic of the de fuzzer so I can see if they are available over here in the UK? Thanks Andy

Hi Andy, How are you? Pic as requested: Usually you can find these fairly readily in variety stores. Paul
