What a wonderfully elegant Physics demonstration! Look how the leftmost pendulum changes amplitude as well as phase until both align with the others. It's all to do with the energy flowing between them via the wobbly base. Not sure how to make a pianola analogy here, but let's try - if three pianolists were pedalling on a wobbly platform would they all end up pumping at the same time? Would anybody care? Could anybody tell? Julian
